In 1972, Nando Parrado survived a plane crash in the Andes that left him and his teammates stranded for 72 days. With little hope of rescue, he and Roberto Canessa set out across the mountains on foot and walked for ten days until they found help. More than fifty years later, his story still silences a room, and at Nordic Business Forum 2026 in Helsinki it did exactly that in front of 8,500 business leaders.
After his keynote, our Group CEO Jenni Vilamo sat down with Parrado to talk about leadership when the stakes are as high as they get. Their conversation moved from the mountains to the boardroom: how to make decisions with incomplete information, why trust in a team matters more than any single plan, and what keeps people moving when the destination is not yet in sight.
"Never underestimate the role of love and luck when you go through difficult times," Parrado said.
For Jenni, the conversation hit close to home. "Most of us will never face anything close to what Nando went through. But every growing company has its own mountains to cross. What struck me most was how he talked about the team: nobody made it alone. That is exactly what Winning Together means to us as we grow across Europe."
Conversations like this are what we believe in at Aurora Live: leaders learning from each other, challenging each other, and taking those lessons back to their own teams.
